"Love, Wellness, and Quality"
Basenjis are known as the Barkless Hound of Africa. While it is true they do not bark, they scream, howl, growl, snarl, snort and do every other canine sound.
Basenjis are a wonderful breed but they are NOT for beginners.
They have wonderful attributes but they are also very independent, stubborn and have a very long memory. They have been known to be spiteful even.
They have been known to be diggers, chewers, climbers, runners, screamers.
Basenjis in many cases are either same sex dog aggressive or dog aggressive to those that are not a member of their pack. Know that this is natural for ALL dogs and shouldn't be punished. Early socialization is very important if you want them to be able to enjoy a dog park without spats.
Well socialized Basenjis are friendly with all people and love attention. Basenjis are from Africa so they really like staying warm. If you live in a cold climate be prepared to get them sweaters! I'm not joking!
Basenjis are very social and are not the kind of dog you can leave outside all day and night. No dog truly enjoys being away from their people. Also if you were to leave them outside, they would devise a plan to escape and a Basenji on the run is a dead Basenji waiting to happen. Their instincts make them unafraid of many things they should be afraid of...like cars.
